Ranjeet S. Marwa
He is the man behind Cain Rose Up Dollar Baby Film.
SKSM: Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: Hi. My name is Ranjeet S. Marwa and I am a film director from the UK. I come from a family of 3 generations of musicians. Since the age of 4 I’ve been pushed to excel at anything I do thanks to my father. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
SKSM: How did the project of filming Cain rose up started?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: I spoke to a producer who wanted to option a Stephen King book, so I told him to go and option a story from the DB scheme. Cain Rose Up was the one he chose. I only came on as the director but I stated to the producer I wanted to make the ilm my way, he agreed to it and we made one of the best films to date.
SKSM: Why did you choose that particular story to adapt. Did you had another story in mind?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: Cain was a story I wanted to do for a while but because of the school shootings in the USA I wasn’t sure if I wanted to take on such a sensitive topic. Then came a time where I knew I had to take my career further, so I took the opportunity and it indeed paid off. I would like to adapt the John Dillinger story, The Death of Jack Hamilton. I love gangster movies.
SKSM: Are you a Stephen King fan? If so, which are your favorite works and adaptations?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: I am a fan yes, but not an avid fan. I like The Shining, IT, Shawshank Redemption and Misery. These are my favorites of his.
SKSM: What are you working at nowadays?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: I have 2 huge projects happening right now, one is a Stephen King project but I cant say much, its not fully greenlit yet. The other is a comic book movie which will hopefully be premiering at London Comic Con. After that I’ll probably be taking a break for a while. I’ve worked non stop for 4 years, I think a break is in order.
SKSM: Can you tell us about the filming steps. How long is it planned to take? How many people are involved in it? Funny things that happened so far?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: Pre production for me normally takes about 2 weeks, it was a full one day shoot from beginning to end. There were 4 people involved in the process of the film and another 1 who was the producer. The funniest thing that happened was when we shot the killing spree scene when Curt puts on Beethoven, it was such a funny scene to do but watching it was very hard because it looked psychotic. Everyone enjoyed themselves though, had a great time shooting it.
SKSM: Do you plan to screen the movie at a particular festival?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: Its already been played at the DB film festival last year, it will probably be played in a few more festivals too. We’ll see what happens. I mostly make films for the love of it, not for the awards or the money.
SKSM: This is your second adaptation from Mr King short stories. Once the production is finished, are you planning to adapt another one Stephen King story? Which one?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: I’d like to adapt another one but I have bigger plans for another one of King’s projects. My lips are sealed on it though, I cant say nothing until its finalised.
SKSM: Something you’d like to tell our readers?
Ranjeet S. Marwa: Work hard, stay motivated, stay pro active, believe, have faith, have patience, accept defeat and embrace victory, give back to the world even if its only a small thing, do it from your heart, always be positive, always keep your head up, charge the mountain, never quit, everything is possible, and finally, be yourself.
