Dorian Santiago

He played in Chris Ethridge‘s Dollar Baby Survivor Type as Nick Lowenthal.

SKSM: Could you start with telling me a bit about yourself? Who are you and what do you do?

Dorian Santiago: I’m a screenwriter, director, master acting coach, and author.
I’ve currently moved into public speaking after I walked from Chicago to Los Angeles.

SKSM: When did you know you wanted to become an actor?

Dorian Santiago: I don’t really believe you know you want to become an actor, rather you realize you already are and then you just nurture your gift and passion. That discovery happened in 2008.

SKSM: How did you become involved in Survivor type Dollar Baby film?

Dorian Santiago: It’s a while but I believe it was an open call for actors.

SKSM: What do you think it is in the story that attracts people so much?

Dorian Santiago: This is a story of extremes. It shows to what extent humans are willing to go for what they desire, whether it’s money or just to survive.

SKSM: Did you have to audition for the part or was it written directly for you?

Dorian Santiago: I had to audition.

SKSM: You worked with Chris Ethridge on this film, how was that?

Dorian Santiago: Chris was wonderful to work with. When you have someone that has that much passion for what they do, it is always a pleasure.

SKSM: Was there any funny or special moment when they made the movie that you would like to tell me about?

Dorian Santiago: It’s been a while and those moments, which I know existed, elude me.

SKSM: Do you still have any contact with the crew/cast from that time? If so with who?

Dorian Santiago: It’s unfortunate but I haven’t been in contact with any of them since two years after the project.

SKSM: What are you working nowadays?

Dorian Santiago: I’ve written two books, an acting book “Get Your ACT Together – Living an Oscar-Worthy Life” and “Moving at the Speed of Life”, a story about by walk from Chicago to LA. I’m doing private coaching with actors. I am also writing teleplays and screenplays while I’m waiting to hear back from M.F.A programs I’ve applied to.

SKSM: Are you a fan of Stephen King’s work?

Dorian Santiago: Absolutely. He is the reason I write today. Skeleton Crew (which contains Survivor Type) was actually the first book I ever remember reading for pleasure.

SKSM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Dorian Santiago: I’ve already stated my walk across the U.S., but a close second would be that I use to be a ballroom dance instructor and tattoo artist.

SKSM: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there anything else you want to say to the fans that read this interview?

Dorian Santiago: Do what you love. People may not think it is practical but practical hinders progress. Dream big. Live extreme.

SKSM: Do you like something to add?
