SKSM: Tell us about yourself, who is Ariana Russell and what do you do or have you done?
Ariana Russell: I am an Iron Range native, a hippie enthusiast, and someone who enjoys living life to the fullest.
SKSM: When did you know you wanted to become an actress?
Ariana Russell: To be completely honest, it hasn’t ever been a thought. Though I think it would be fun and challenging, I don’t think it would be something I could do for a living.
SKSM: What else do you do besides acting?
Ariana Russell: I’m a first grade teacher by day, homebody by night. I also enjoy crafting, baking, and just hang a chill moment whether it’s by myself or with others.
SKSM: How did you become involved in Night Surf short film?
Ariana Russell: Greg’s longtime girlfriend and one of my best friends, Abbie, called me asking if I would like to be a part of it. I said yes right away and drove over to their house to read through the script with the rest of the cast that agreed.
SKSM: What do you think it is about the story that attracts people so much?
Ariana Russell: Movie wise, it was still COVID times while we were filming which was very similar to what was happening in the book / movie. I think what attracts people to the story is that you would never imagine being stranded with only 6 others while this crazy virus is taking the lives of everyone else on the planet. That sounds impossible!
SKSM: Did you have to audition for the part or was it written directly for you?
Ariana Russell: I did not have to audition. Greg decided that Joan was the best part for me.
SKSM: You worked with Greg Gentry II on this film, how was that?
Ariana Russell: Greg is great! He’s very considerate and thoughtful. During filming, he made sure that we were taken care of and staying on track so that we weren’t out filming all night. It was a great experience. We had a lot of fun.
SKSM: What are you thinking of the end result of the film?
Ariana Russell: I think the end result of the film was amazing! I remember when watching it for the first time, I was very impressed with how everyone did with their acting and how Greg did with editing and putting the film together.
SKSM: Do you still have any contact with the crew/cast from that time? If so with who?
Ariana Russell: Yes! I still talk to Abbie Newman, Heather Jordan, Ivy Riddles, and Greg. We were friends before filming and are still friends to this day.
SKSM: What are you working on nowadays?
Ariana Russell: I am not working on anything at the moment.
SKSM: Are you a fan of Stephen King’s work?
Ariana Russell: To be completely honest, I’ve never read any of his books. That is not my preferred genre though I have heard great things and know that he is well loved.
SKSM: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there anything you want to say to the fans that read this interview?
Ariana Russell: Thanks to everyone who has watched and enjoyed this film!
