SKSM: Could you start with telling me a little bit about yourself? Who are you and what do you do?
David Ovando: I am David Ovando Jeria, a geographer by profession and I work in topics of Planning and Territorial Ordering.
SKSM: When did you know you wanted to become an actor?
David Ovando: Since University I have been involved in the arts and audiovisuals.
SKSM: What else do you do besides acting?
David Ovando: I work in a public service in matters of Regional Planning in the city of Punta Arenas.
SKSM: How did you become involved in Fletcher Dollar Baby film?
David Ovando: Albert invited me to be part of his team. Years ago I had the opportunity to collaborate with him in another project and he knew that I spoke some English and French.
SKSM: What do you think it is about the story that attracts people so much?
David Ovando: Fletcher’s survival instinct, faced with an extreme situation in a remote place without law. The dictatorships that ravaged Latin America have exposed this type of hell.
SKSM: Did you have to audition for the part or was it written directly for you?
David Ovando: Albert gave me this role, which suited me quite well.
SKSM: You worked with Albert Hamilton on this film, how was that?
David Ovando: It was a very satisfying experience, his direction was very clear and he developed the character with complete freedom to fit my personality.
SKSM: Was there any funny or special moment when they made the movie that you would like to tell me about?
David Ovando: There were many moments during the filming when I was blank and forgot my script. Albert very patiently picked up and gave continuity to many scenes in which I was not up to par.
SKSM: What are you working on nowadays?
David Ovando: I’m working at the Regional Government of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, in the Regional Planning and Development Division.
SKSM: Are you a fan of Stephen King’s work?
David Ovando: Yes, and I think this is because I read a lot of Edgar Allan Poe since I was a teenager.
SKSM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
David Ovando: After having lived in various places, I am happy living on the shores of the Strait of Magellan in Chilean Patagonia. I was born in Punta Arenas and after 40 years I returned to my homeland.
SKSM: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there anything you want to say to the fans that read this interview?
David Ovando: Thank you all for continuing to increase the value of Stephen King’s work.
